Reduction of Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) and Total Suspended Solid (TSS) Levels in Rubber Wastewater Using Biosand Filter Reactor with Activated Carbon Media Based on the Effect of Residence Time

Wastewater from the rubber industry that is not treated optimally can be one of causes environmental damage. Initial concentration COD waste liquid 711 mg/l and TSS 407 mg / l. Biosand Filter with activated carbon eliminate pathogenic bacteria by passing sand in filter will absorb organic substances. This study aims to determine effectiveness reduction, TSS, using a reactor BioSand dimensions used measuring 12 cm x 120 its effect on residence time. Media are sand, gravel, pumice carbon. The research variable time (10, 30, 50, 70, 90 minutes). Removal efficiency after being processed technology media lowered parameters 93% for 79% TSS. Test reduce levels done regression test has value R2=0.7014 R2=0.681 tcount > ttable. results show wastewater affect decrease quite effective eliminating parameters.
